If the outdoor canopy that you spend time eating and relaxing inside of during family gatherings during the summertime has a torn screen, repair it with the following steps. The mended screen will have an improved appearance and you will not need to worry about insects coming inside of the canopy and disrupting you or your family members while spending time outdoors.

Materials

  • piece of screen mesh
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • safety pins
  • large sewing needle
  • embroidery floss

Measure And Cut The Screen Mesh And Secure The Two Pieces

Use a ruler to measure the length and width of the damaged area. Cut a piece of screen mesh that is a little bit larger than the damaged area so that the material provides sufficient coverage once it is sewn to the original piece of mesh. If the torn area has any jagged edges, use scissors to eliminate them. Place the replacement piece of mesh directly over the damaged one so that the holes on both pieces are lined up evenly. Hold the two pieces of mesh together by securing them with a few safety pins.

Sew The Two Pieces Of Mesh Together

Thread a large sewing needle with a piece of embroidery floss that is the same color as the screen mesh pieces. Knot the end of the floss to secure it. Insert the tip of the sewing needle through holes in each mesh piece that are lined up with one another. Pull the thread taut to hold the pieces of mesh close together. Push the tip of the needle down through the next two holes and pull the floss tight, once again.

Continue sewing around the two pieces of screen mesh by alternating with pulling the needle upwards and pushing it downwards through both pieces. Once the pieces of mesh are stitched together, trim the end of the embroidery floss and knot it close to the canopy's exterior.

Take Care Of The Outdoor Canopy

In order to prevent damage to the screen mesh in the future, care for it by cleaning it with mild detergent and water and a soft cloth whenever needed. Avoid placing any sharp objects next to the canopy or rubbing the mesh with any abrasive materials. By cleaning the canopy properly and caring for it on a regular basis, the screen mess will remain intact and you can enjoy using the outdoor structure without being bothered by pests.
