Your home can have a hidden mold problem, and if you aren't aware of the symptoms of mold and can't see any actual mold present, you might not ever realize that there is mold lurking in your house. There are a few clues that you should keep an eye out for that indicate that your home has a mold problem.

Food Spoils Quickly

If you leave fruits or vegetables out on the counter and notice that they quickly start to spoil and grow mold, this is a symptom of a mold problem in your home. When mold is present, it creates almost invisible mold spores that float through your home. These spores can then attach themselves to the fruit or vegetables on your counter and start to grow into moldy patches. If you notice food spoiling quickly, purchase a mold-spore test to determine whether or not a large number of mold spores are present in your home.

Physical Ailments

Mold exposure, even if you can't see the mold, can cause physical symptoms. Some of the physical symptoms that can crop up due to mold exposure include coughing, itchy eyes, headaches, sneezing, and runny noses. If your family members are suddenly experiencing these symptoms, and the symptoms seem to have no cause, they may be due to the fact that mold is present somewhere in your house.

Musty Smells

Mold emits a musty smell, and this smell is one surefire clue that mold is lurking somewhere in your home. If you notice that your home smells musty and moldy in one certain area, mold might be lurking in that room. If you only notice that the house smells musty or moldy when your heat or air is on, you might have a mold problem hiding in your air ducts.

Leaky Water

Mold needs moisture to grow, and if mold has the right conditions of warmth, dark, and moisture, a mold problem can quickly develop. If you notice that you have leaks in your home, especially in places like your basement or a crawl space, that should be a warning sign that mold is also present. You should quickly have the leaked fixed and then test for mold in the areas where you found leaks.

If you suspect that you have a mold problem lurking somewhere in your home or if you want to learn more about mold remediation, contact a mold remediation company. These professionals will be able to root out where the mold exists in your home and then remove the mold and clean the area, thus restoring your home.
